We went to this and although we keep on saying it, it was the best live music we have ever seen. If it was that good on their first live outing what is it going to be like when they really get to grips with it. Thanks Tom, AMAZING!

I was also there and it was the best gig I've ever been to. Just unbelievable the feeling I had as the concert unfolded.

without doubt the most awe inspiring event I have been to, without doubt. I love my whistle at the end of the set, can not believe it is in tune...I do hope and pray that the complete set comes out in video or audio. fanbloodytastic

it is so rubbish, empty vanity music from a complacent over-privileged vanity culture
    21 Abril de 2008 - collodiallofi #11
  • collodiallofi
it is so rubbish, devoid of humility or genuine emotioninstead we are offered a 'concept' which turns out to be a conceitover-privileged vanity music from a? stale and complacent culturego out and live!

    Did you go?

no - I was passing comment on the videoI wouldn't doubt being in an enthusiastic crowd would have a heavy influence

Did I read right? You say 'go out and live' after commenting, in an overly cynical tone, about an event you didn't go to...

great use of? humourits still shit
    21 Abril de 2008 - collodiallofi #18
  • beeoelf
I find your comments offensive - how can you watch that, see the excitement of the musicians and the audience and say something so pathetic as "It's still shit"? The Bays are a pretty humble bunch considering how ace they are, this music has nothing to do with vanity - it is raw and naked. Silly little music teacher type arent you?
    21 Abril de 2008 - beeoelf #19
  • collodiallofi
I am making a blunt value judgment, and appealing to those commenting positively to go out and explore non-concept music that is not artificial, naval-gazing or mediocre. From the responses so far I see that I am wasting my time.I do not know why you would think it is raw or naked.

This was an amazing gig. the bays were great and the heritage orchestra too, but the conductor jules really stole the show for me...if was fab to watch him arrange the whole thing!a lot of feedback I heard about it - was that more visuals which showed the improvising of the score was needed, instead of the meaningless video colours and flowers.

Saw them at Warwick arts centre on Saturday. If you can make any of the other dates on the tour its not to be missed. They also did a small set before the main performance which will blow you away..

Saw them last night - your comments are spot on. Don't bother seeing them - the idea is all there is of value here.

  • duluoz
Just seen them tonight at the Royal Festival Hall - not impressed at all. Good idea, but just didn't sound good. The only consolation is that as the music is all improvised, nobody need ever hear it again.

Completely disagree with the last two comments on here. Saw them in London last night and was one of the best shows I've been to in a long while. The long standing ovation at the end suggests the majority agreed with me. Each to their own though, not necessarily everyone's cup of tea of course. Personally thought they were fantastic and so much better with orchestra than last time I saw them just as Bays in Brighton, although that was amazing too.

I was there too on Saturday. As it started all I thought I knew was that it was improvised. I had no idea that it was not quite that but real-time composition, and certainly no idea what that meant for the experience of being in the audience - amazing.I'd agree not every minute worked as well as other minutes, but this is the very nature of experiment. Even then, there is a real thrill in experiencing something like that emerge out of the doing of it - in-the-moment. Acts of courage as music.

Agree with below. I had an amazing time at RFH and noticed everyone who was sitting around me were really getting into it as well. I would see it ten times over if I could. I've got got a lot of respect for these guys and would recommend them to anyone.

  • russellh6969
The last comment is bang on. I saw them at warwick and the RFH. It would be impossible for every min of the music to make perfect sense or sound but that is the nature of this project. The incredible skill is to find your way out of those moments that are not quite as they would like. The last 20mins of the RFH gig were truely fantastic . If you have played any musical instrument to any standard you will understand what it takes to do what they achieved.

i gotta say that these guys (the bays) came to Guadalajara (mexico) like 6 years ago. and it was a concert with invitation, not tickets that you could buy. so those who were there were supposed to be priviliged. the thing is that before the bays, another band played. a very mediocre and meaningless local band called sussie 4. the moment they stopped, 80 percent of the audience left the place. can you believe it? almost everyone didn't stay for the musicians they were invited to listen. idiots
