pero en filipinas si se habla ingles, fue colonizada por españoles por eso todos tienen apellidos latinos pero luego fue colonizada por ingleses por eso hablan ingles

yo conosco filipinos y ninguno habla el ingles, es como cualquier persona que aprende a hablar ingles, ellos hablan tagalo, y los padres o ancianos hablan o se dan a entender en español

The islands were a Spanish colony for 300 yrs & American colony for 50 yrs. Usually, if you meet an "Asian-looking" person with a Spanish surname, chances are he/she is Filipino. I think the reason why Filipinos don't speak 100% Spanish is b/c of the 7000 islands and 100's of languages spoken. The lack of unity prevented Spanish from completely becoming the official language. Filipinos in the Philippines, is this correct?Tagalog is combination native/English/Spanish.

Unlike South America which is geographically one land mass, the Spanish were able to completely convert the tongues into one dominant language although there are many indigenous languages spoken. I'm no anthropologist, but I think this makes sense.Filipino culture is unique compared to other cultures. B/c of the centuries of colonization, diversity and having "mestizo" features is considered attractive unlike other cultures that emphasize the "pure" look.

I am a half Filipina but my parents can speak Spanish but the new generation can't coz of the US Colonization!Our college universities stil have the Spanish Subject!!But coz of this US colonial mentality,Filipino choose to speak English rather than the Spanish!We have an island who speak CHAVACANO a mere close to Spanish language and it is in Zamboanga and part of Cavite!!

I once heard that it's because they don't want us to understand them and know what they are doing. They know what we can do if provoked (ex: Lapu-Lapu killed Magellan). During the US colonial period, english replaced spanish in schools - from primary onwards. Filipino language has a lot of spanish words: "como esta" is "kamusta" in Filipino.

After the spanish-american war at the end of the 1800's, spanish language at schools were eradicated. English and Tagalog became the replacement.

Wow, finding true talent like Arnel is like finding a needle in a haystack! This is a great business move by Neal Schon. With Arnel being a Filipino, Journey will appeal to a whole new group of fans (Asians and Latinos). What a tremendous business decision. The people of Chile enjoyed the concert without strong-comparison among the past lead vocalists of Journey.To Steve Perry's fans, pls don't get mad to somebody for not being someone.Filipinas, is the "Lost Latin-American Nation" (geographically-drifted to Asian continent). Although located in Asia, the culture is much closer to Latin-America and even to US and Canada. i´m from Chile and I was at this concert,the sound was great and Arnel kicked ass, we accept that what matters are the tunes, not who sings them, now Journey can still be alive thanks to Arnel (Neal Shon really knows that). But now they are just a shell of their former greatness, just a touring greatest hits cover band without their great leader. Steve Perry was one of the great vocalist of all time.

Arnel Pineda is not white, doesn't have blue eyes and blonde hair but he can SPEAK and SING English with CLASS and HIGH NOTES! What more, he sounds like the real Steve Perry. Steve Perry is a great singer, no doubt but Steve Perry is not Journey, Journey is composed of talented musicians who keep moving on with music.

First question. Which song did he forgot the lyrics? I'm not familiar with all Journey songs that's why I am asking. The obvious one, I think, is Rubicon. But let me tell you something. Arnel might be singing Journey songs for years BUT he only sung those that are popular in the Philippines (Open Arms, Faithfully). He probably learned the rest of the songs on this set when he joined Journey.

Pineda is a good singer, but Americans usually do not accept a new frontman with established bands, especially with a band as successful as Journey. Steve Perry is Major part of the Journey trademark. I feel Pineda will be accepted abroad, but in America only as a generic Perry....

we don't care if he is generic or brand name medicine as long as he Cures the same ailment with a better result..and the ailment is a perry-less journey, and now they are CURED!...HALLELUYA!...AMEN!

But to you kelckeri, cause if you think that Americans will not accept him and he will be just a generic Perry..you will eat back your vomit!..Because by this time the Arnel Pineda's Journey are already sold out in Las Vegas!..and I heard Steve Perry bought ten tickets!...LOL!!!

Many 80s bands sell out in America, but are not selling new records. Journey is stuck on Perry or would not recruit generic Perrys each time a new ront man is needed. Pineda is singing 20 year old songs he learned? to imitate as a cover band member. Many people can imitate, but do not have the talent or soul to create great music. Pineda had nothing to do with creating the "great" in Journey's music, he is merely imitating the "greatness".

Arnel is definitely not a generic nor imitating Perry, he has his own style that could somehow sound like Perry but you can see his distinct difference. And he has definitely has the the talent and the soul to create great music. Of course now they are still simging the old Journey's music for this tour but wait until their new songs come out and then you can judge him. But for now, we just love, enjoy and adore him with Journey or not.

You cannot conclude that yet because a new album with Pineda isn't even out yet.

I don't think Arnel is unique only for his voice, but for his charisma, soul and energy. ...with regards to forgetting lyrics...check out bed of roses...even jon bon jovi forgets the lyrics of his own song...and people think it is still cool and he's still awesome...so what's the difference...nobody's perfect guys...it's like you are just looking at the dot in a perfectly clean piece of paper...you never notice the wider part which is spotless.

Maybe for you it's better, but for me it's not. I have listened to Journey for years and it's just not the same without Steve Perry. I can understand all of Arnels fans liking him and thinking he's good....but you really can't replace the true voie of Journey.

Maybe for you it's better, but for me it's not. I have listened to Journey for years and it's just not the same without Steve Perry. I can understand all of Arnels fans liking him and thinking he's good....but you really can't replace the true voice of Journey.

I actually wish Arnel lots of luck, but it's the band that I have a problem with. I think they will screw him over in the long run. They are good about that. Arnel does have his own style. I just hope Journey lets him use it instead of singing all of Perry's old songs.

Yep, Perry is done. Why did he leave Journey?? Because Neal and Jon wanted to go on without him when he had health issues. I don't blame Perry one bit. I feel if they wanted to continue to be a band then they should have changed their name and moved on to something new. Why make Arnel sing all the same old Journey songs? Because it was Perry voice that brought in the $ that's why.

What I want to say is that no matter the original singer when a classic song is performed, but the talent and the way the singer communicates the message to people. I think Arnel has an amazing voice and soul, he meets many qualities for being remember forever!!!

I have never been a Journey fan, even in the 80's. Probably because I was not a rock and roll listener. I just started learning aboaut their songs and loving it when I heard that Arnel (my sister and brother though have listened to him a few times even during his AMO Band shows, and God, I could not sleep without hearing these songs.Now, I'm already a fan... hehehehe... Well done, Arnel. Very beautiful rendition. You're the new frontman of Journey now, and don't ever let anyone tell you different. Neal found you and Journey auditioned you. They want you to be their lead. Perry and JSS fans will just always find reasons and nitpick your performances. But still the whole point is that Journey's music is out there again. Even the teeners in my house are begging me to buy your cd, when it comes out.

One uploader of the Santiago, Chile concert here is just 15 y/o. An avid fan of High School Musical and now says she loves Journey alongside them (Gracias mi hija, Vane). Another one also commented the Arnel is just the frontman that he knows, because he wasn't even born in the SP? era yet. But now is a fan of Journey. Arnel has incredible vocal talent and ability. He has tremendous power at the high end. Additional stage time will allow him to polish his act. I don't think he was fronting a band in the Phillipines with the stature of Journey , or playing venues like the Vina del Mar festival. For his first performance, I thought he did an awesome job.

Arnel was trying to keep the audience engaged and sing with him that's why he kept saying "c'mon, c'mon." The audience responded positively so they sang with him and enjoyed everything.This is different to a typical concert where the audience simply listens to the singer and applaud after each performance.Fact is, every singer has his own unique style and for me the best performer is one who can connect with his audience, make them sing with him and enjoy like Arnel did. PEACE!!!
